미국식 중화요리/패스트푸드 체인점 [PANDA EXPRESS]
미국 도착한 당일은 입국심사 기다리며 하루를 보내버렸고. 다음 날은 씨월드, 그다음 날은 디즈니랜드에서 보내고 나니 4일 차가 되어서야 외식다운 외식을 할 수 있었어요.
(놀이동산 밥은 맛이 별로 없더라고요.... 특히 씨월드에서 먹은 건 너무 짜거나, 아무 맛이 안 나거나 둘 중 하나였어요🤣)
On the day I arrived in the U.S., I spent the entire day waiting for immigration. The next day was at SeaWorld, and the day after that at Disneyland. It wasn’t until the fourth day that I finally had a proper meal out. (The food at the amusement parks wasn’t great... especially at SeaWorld, where it was either too salty or completely flavorless.)
가장 처음 가본 곳은 판다 익스프레스! 찾아보니 여의도 IFC몰에도 매장이 있긴 하지만, 여의도 갈 일이 없다 보니 우리나라에 있는 줄도 몰랐네요.
I went to Panda Express for lunch that day. I later found out there's actually a location in the IFC Mall in Yeouido, but since I never go there, I didn't even know it existed in Korea.
저는 LA 다운타운에서 1시간가량 떨어진 곳에 있는 매장에 방문했는데, 복잡한 시내가 아니다 보니 매장이며 주차장이며 엄청 널찍했어요. 이 동네는 2층 이상의 건물이 없더라고요.
I visited a location about an hour away from downtown LA. Since it wasn't in a busy area, the store and parking lot were incredibly spacious. There weren’t any buildings taller than two stories in that neighborhood.
미국식 식당들은 주문할 때 선택해야 하는 게 많아요. 일단 볼 or 플레이트 or cub meal(키즈메뉴)... etc 중 어떤 형태로 식사할지 선택하고, 메인 메뉴를 선택하고, 같이 먹을 사이드를 선택하고.
아마 혼자 갔다면 멘붕이 왔을 거예요. 요즘 한국에서 써브웨이 주문도 귀찮아지는 걸 보면 나이가 들긴 했나 봐요...
At American restaurants, there are so many choices to make when ordering. First, you decide whether you want a bowl, plate, or kids' meal, etc. Then, you choose the main dish, followed by the sides. I was relieved that I didn’t have to do the ordering myself.

조리된 음식들을 바로바로 담아주는 방식이라 음식은 빠르게 나오는 편이에요.
Since they serve the prepared food immediately, the food comes out quite quickly.
수저는 셀프로 챙겨가면 되고요.
You can grab your own utensils and napkins near the fountain drinks.
음료도 Fountain Drink은 리필이 가능해요. 탄산음료에 관대한 나라...ㅎㅎㅎ
아이들이 먹은 Cub Meal은 동일하게 메인과 사이드 메뉴를 고를 수 있는데 양이 볼(Bowl)보다는 조금 더 적어요. (이때만 해도 아들이 많이 안 먹었는데, 인 앤 아웃 버거를 갑자기 하나 다 먹기 시작하면서 식욕이 폭발하기 시작했다는...)
The kids' Cub Meal allows you to choose both a main dish and side items, but the portions are slightly smaller than the bowl size.
메인 메뉴는 단품으로도 조금씩 주문할 수 있는데요, 언니가 하나씩 맛보라고 3개 더 주문해 줬어요.
You can also order the main dishes as individual items, and my sister ordered three more for us to try.
그래도 개인적으로는 오렌지 치킨이 제일 맛있었답니다. 빅뱅이론에서도 자주 등장하던 오렌지 치킨이 이런 맛이었구나... 탕수육과 비슷한 듯하면서 달라요!
Personally, I found the Orange Chicken to be the best. It’s similar to sweet and sour pork but with a unique twist!
진짜 오랜만에 포춘쿠키도 뜯어보았어요. 맛도 나쁘지 않더라고요.
I also had a fortune cookie for the first time in ages.
대부분 좋은 말이 써져 있긴 했지만, 열어보는 재미가 있죠. Even though most of the messages are positive, it’s fun to open them.
조만간 여의도 IFC몰에 있는 판다 익스프레스도 방문해서, 미국 여행을 추억하며 오렌지 치킨을 먹어봐야겠어요. 거기도 포춘 쿠키를 주려나 궁금하네요 :)
I should visit the Panda Express at the IFC Mall in Yeouido someday to enjoy some Orange Chicken. I’m curious to see if they offer fortune cookies there as well.
