By the time we checked into our hotel and unpacked, it was already close to 10 p.m.
I wasn’t extremely hungry, but we decided to head out for a short night walk and explore the area around our hotel.

Seeing Marina Bay Sands at night was really something—it honestly looked like a giant LEGO structure. The iconic buildings blended beautifully with the surroundings, and the night view was absolutely stunning.
After a quick stroll, we decided to grab a late-night snack and headed to Lau Pa Sat, one of Singapore’s famous hawker centres.

Hawker centres are similar to food courts in Korea, but since they’re managed by the government in Singapore, they’re generally very clean and well organized.
Even late at night, the place was brightly lit and still bustling, with tourists and locals mingling together. Since Lau Pa Sat is open 24 hours, it’s a great spot to visit when you’re feeling a little hungry late at night.

During the day, it’s a regular hawker centre selling food from various cuisines, but at night, the road is closed and turns into a satay street, where grilled skewers are cooked right in front of you.

I had watched Sung Si-kyung’s YouTube video beforehand, but when we arrived, I noticed photos of Jun Hyun-moo displayed at the stall instead. Some of the staff even spoke Korean surprisingly well, which made the experience even more fun.

The satay is sold in set menus, and card payment is accepted. We ordered a set of 40 skewers.

After receiving a pager, you can find any empty table and wait. Since your hands tend to get messy while eating satay, there are vendors walking around selling wet wipes. They’re probably overpriced, so it’s a good idea to bring your own.

The skewers were served generously on a tray, and the smoky charred flavor was amazing. The prawns required peeling by hand, which was a bit of work, but they were so chewy and flavorful that we ended up finishing everything. Forty skewers sounded like a lot at first, but once you start eating, they disappear quickly.

I remember seeing online that there were two types of sauces, but we were served two plates of what looked like the same one. I’m not sure if I just couldn’t tell the difference, or if they skipped the spicy sauce because we had a child with us.
Either way, the sauce wasn’t too strong or spicy, so our child enjoyed it without any problem.
I didn’t take a photo of the menu, so I can’t remember the exact price, but considering the portion size and the atmosphere, it didn’t feel overly expensive.
It was a perfect place to stop by for a light late-night meal while walking around, and a great way to experience Singapore’s hawker culture all in one place. We ended up coming back a couple more times during the trip—and even now, it’s one of the foods I still think about back in Korea.
