After a short and easy flight, we arrived in Kagoshima 🙂
We purchased airport limousine bus tickets and headed straight to Tenmonkan, where our hotel was located. For two adults and one child, the total fare was around 36,000 KRW, which felt quite reasonable. Perhaps prices are generally lower since it’s a smaller regional city.
아침 8시 비행기였는데, 덴몬칸에 도착하니 아직 오전 11시 30분! 일단 숙소 위치 파악하고, 짐을 맡긴 후에 점심 먹으러 가기로 했어요.
Our flight departed at 8 a.m., and by the time we arrived in Tenmonkan, it was only 11:30 a.m. We first checked the hotel location, left our luggage, and then went out for lunch.
가고시마에서 일주일간 머문 호텔은 ‘호텔 게이트 인’이었어요.
일본을 일주일씩이나 가냐고 놀라는 분들이 많은데, 저는 개인적으로 느리게 쉬어가는 여행을 좋아합니다.
구석구석 현지 감성을 느끼기엔 일주일도 짧더라고요.
We stayed for a week in Kagoshima at HOTEL GATE IN.
Some people are surprised when I say we spend a full week in Japan, but I personally enjoy slow, restful travel. Even a week feels short when you want to truly soak in the local atmosphere.

2026년 새해 다짐 중 하나는 일본어 까막눈 벗어나기! 다음 일본 여행 때는 일어가 눈에 좀 읽히면 좋겠네요.
One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2026 is to stop being completely illiterate in Japanese! I hope I’ll be able to read at least a little on my next trip.
🏢호텔 로비
호텔은 일본 특유의 아담하고 단정한 느낌이었고, 덴몬칸 중심부에서 도보 약 5분 거리라 쇼핑이나 식사 후에도 부담 없이 오갈 수 있어 편리했어요.
The hotel had that typically Japanese feel—compact, neat, and well organized. It was about a five-minute walk from central Tenmonkan, making it easy to come and go after shopping or dining.
로비에는 보리차/티백/커피머신 등이 있어 음료를 자유롭게 마실 수 있었고, 화장솜/머리끈 등의 1회용 어매니티도 비치되어있어 필요한만큼 가져다쓸 수 있었어요.
In the lobby, there was barley tea, tea bags, and a coffee machine available for guests. Cotton pads, hair ties, and other disposable amenities were also provided, so you could take what you needed.
비가 올 경우를 대비해 우산을 자유롭게 대여할 수 있도록 호텔 입구에 마련해 두어 세심함이 느껴졌어요.
The hotel even placed umbrellas at the entrance for guests to borrow on rainy days—a thoughtful touch.
엘리베이터에는 층별 안내가 깔끔하게 표시되어 있었고, 특이하게 만화책과 잡지를 대여해서 읽을 수 있었어요. 베개도 추가로 필요하면 9층에서 자유롭게 가져다 이용할 수 있었습니다.
The elevator had clear floor guides, and interestingly, guests could borrow manga and magazines to read. Extra pillows were available on the 9th floor if needed.
10층에서는 사쿠라지마를 볼 수 있다고 해서 체크인 후 곧바로 올라가보았는데요. 멀리서도 단번에 사쿠라지마임을 알아볼 수 있을 만큼 존재감이 뚜렷했고, 그 웅장한 풍경에 잠시 넋을 잃게 되더라고요.
The view of Sakurajima from the 10th floor, was truly unmistakable. The sheer scale of the volcano was so impressive that I found myself just standing there, taking it all in.
🌋객실 후기
비흡연실이면서, 가족 3인이 함께 사용하다보니 비교적 넓은 방으로 예약했어요.
일본 호텔답게 아담하지만 실용적으로 편의시설이 다 갖추어져있어 편안하게 지낼 수 있었습니다 :)
Since it was a non-smoking room and we were staying as a family of three, we reserved a slightly larger room. Like many Japanese hotels, it was compact but efficiently designed, with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay.
슬리퍼는 인원수에 맞춰 3세트가 문앞에 가지런히 놓여있었고요.
Three pairs of slippers were neatly placed by the entrance.
현관에는 외투를 간단히 걸 수 있는 헹거와 의류 탈취제, 구두 주걱과 멀티탭 등이 있었어요.
In the entryway, there was a hanger for coats, a fabric deodorizer spray, a shoehorn, and even a power strip.
옷장과 옷걸이도 준비되어있었고, 가습기도 있더라고요.
There was also a wardrobe with hangers and a humidifier in the room.
이그제큐티브 트리플룸은 싱글 침대 2개와 조금 더 작은 간이침대 1개가 추가로 놓여 있었어요. 간이 침대도 매트는 충분히 푹신해서 잠을 자는 데 불편함은 없었습니다.
청소 후에는 침대마다 새 가운도 늘 올려져 있었어요.
The Executive Triple Room included two single beds and one slightly smaller extra bed. Even the extra bed had a sufficiently soft mattress, so it was comfortable to sleep on. After housekeeping, fresh pajamas were always neatly placed on each bed.
화장대 겸 책상 옆에는 TV가 놓여 있었는데, 유튜브나 다양한 OTT 서비스를 이용할 수 있는 스마트 TV라 편리했어요.
Next to the vanity desk was a smart TV that allowed us to access YouTube and various OTT streaming services, which was very convenient.
충전기와 휴대폰 거치대도 있었지만, 저속 충전만 가능해서 집에서 챙겨간 충전기를 사용했어요.
Although a charger and phone stand were provided, they only supported slow charging, so we ended up using the charger we brought from home.
책상 아래 양 옆으로는 미니바와 미니 냉장고가 있었는데요, 전기포트와 티백, 커피 드립백도 3개씩 준비되어있었어요. 생수병은 제공되지 않는 대신, 층마다 정수기가 있어서 편리하게 이용 가능합니다.
Under the desk were a minibar and mini refrigerator. An electric kettle, tea bags, and drip coffee packs (three of each) were provided. Bottled water was not supplied, but there was a water purifier on each floor, which was convenient.
공기청정기도 있어 조금 의아했는데, 사쿠라지마 화산이 가까워 화산재가 날릴 수 있기 때문에 설치해 둔 것 같았어요.
I was initially curious about the air purifier in the room, but since Sakurajima is nearby and volcanic ash can occasionally drift into the city, it made sense.
🛁욕실
욕실은 변기, 세면대, 욕조가 다 합쳐진 일반적인 형태였어요. 수압도 좋고 따뜻한 물이 잘 나와서 여행 중 반신욕도 즐길 수 있었어요.
The bathroom had the typical all-in-one layout with a toilet, sink, and bathtub. Water pressure was good, and the hot water worked well, so we were even able to enjoy relaxing baths during the trip.
어매니티는 샴푸, 컨디셔너, 바디워시가 다회용 용기에 준비되어있었고, 퀄리티도 좋았어요.
Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were provided in refillable bottles, and the quality was good.
그리고 입욕제와 기초 스킨케어 제품은 물론, 쉐이빙폼과 애프터쉐이브까지 세심하게 갖춰져 있었어요. 특히 최근 호텔에서 쉽게 보기 어려운 칫솔까지 준비되어 있더라고요.
In addition, bath salts, basic skincare products, shaving foam, and aftershave were thoughtfully prepared. They even provided toothbrushes, which are becoming less common in hotels these days.
🧺3층 세탁실과 만화책
3층에는 세탁실이 마련되어 있었고, 세탁기와 건조기, 자판기를 이용할 수 있었습니다. 세제도 구비되어 있어 필요한 경우 바로 사용할 수 있었어요.
On the third floor, there was a laundry room with washing machines, dryers, and vending machines. Detergent was also available, making it easy to do laundry when needed.
HOTEL GATE IN은 일본 특유의 실용적인 구성에 충실한 호텔이었어요. 위치와 청결도, 편의시설까지 전반적으로 만족스러웠고, 덴몬칸 도보권 숙소를 찾는다면 부담 없이 선택해도 좋은 곳입니다.
Overall, HOTEL GATE IN is a hotel that stays true to the practical and efficient style typical of Japan. The location, cleanliness, and facilities were all satisfying, and it’s a solid choice if you’re looking for a convenient place to stay within walking distance of Tenmonkan.
