무자키에서 식사를 마친 뒤 아이의 온라인 시험까지 시간이 조금 남아, 근처에 있는 마루야 가든을 구경하기로 했어요. 덴몬칸 중심에 위치한 쇼핑몰이라 가볍게 들르기 좋은 곳이에요.
After finishing our meal at Mujaki, we still had a little time before my son’s online exam, so we decided to take a look around Maruya Gardens nearby. Located right in the heart of Tenmonkan, it’s an easy place to stop by for shopping.
마루야 가든 3층에는 로프트(Loft)가 있더라고요. 로프트는 일본의 대표적인 라이프스타일 잡화점으로, 문구·뷰티·생활용품·캐릭터 굿즈 등을 판매하는 편집숍이에요. 여행 기념품이나 선물을 고르기 좋아서 구경하는 재미가 쏠쏠했어요.
On the third floor, we found Loft, one of Japan’s most popular lifestyle variety stores. Loft carries everything from stationery and beauty products to home goods and character merchandise, making it a fun place to browse for souvenirs or small gifts.
흥미로웠던 제품은 바로 이 모나카였어요. 겉모양은 일본 전통 과자인 모나카처럼 생겼는데, 알고 보니 뜨거운 물에 녹여 먹는 즉석 스프였답니다. 컵에 담아 물을 부으면 바삭한 겉부분이 스르르 풀리면서 안에 들어 있던 재료가 퍼져 스프로 완성되는 제품이더라고요.
One of the most interesting items was a monaka-shaped product. At first glance, it looked just like the traditional Japanese sweet, but it was actually an instant soup. You simply place it in a cup and pour hot water over it—the crisp outer shell slowly melts away, releasing the ingredients inside and turning into a warm bowl of soup. It was such a clever and uniquely Japanese idea.
드립 커피도 다양하게 판매하고 있어 호기심에 몇 개 구입해보았어요. 일본은 드립백 커피 패키지도 예쁘게 나오는 편이라, 선물용으로도 좋아 보이더라고요.
They also had a wide selection of coffee, and out of curiosity, I picked up a few. In Japan, even drip coffee packets come in beautifully designed packaging, so they make lovely little gifts.
방문했을 당시가 크리스마스 시즌이라 시즌 한정 카드들도 많이 진열되어 있었는데, 디자인이 아기자기하고 감성적인 제품이 많아 한참을 구경했어요.
Since it was the Christmas season, the store was filled with seasonal cards. Many of them had delicate, charming designs, and I found myself browsing for quite a while.
문구류 코너에도 귀여운 캐릭터 메모지나 스티커, 펜 종류가 다양해서 아이 베프에게 줄 선물도 여기서 구입했어요.
The stationery section was just as tempting, with adorable memo pads, stickers, and pens. I even picked up a small gift there for my son’s best friend.
나오는 길에 쇼핑몰 1층에 있는 스타벅스에도 잠시 들렀어요. 몇몇 매장에 가본 결과 가고시마 지역은 소도시라 그런지 빈데어 머그가 별도로 출시되지 않은 것 같더라고요.
On our way out, we stopped by Starbucks on the first floor. From what I’ve seen in a few locations, Kagoshima doesn’t seem to have its own “Been There” mug—perhaps because it’s considered a smaller city.
마침 Japan 머그컵이 없어서, 기념으로 하나 구입했습니다. 최근에 머그 2개를 깨먹어서 마음이 아프네요😭
I didn't have a Japan version of "Been There" series, so I ended up buying one. I had recently broken two mugs at home—which makes me heartbroken..😭
말차 라떼도 한 잔 테이크아웃해서 숙소로 돌아갔어요.
I grabbed a matcha latte to go and headed back to the hotel.
온라인 시험을 무사히 마친 뒤, 가볍게 바람 쐬러 가고시마 중앙공원으로 향했어요. 여유로운 주말 분위기 속에서 각자만의 시간을 보내는 사람들을 보니 덩달아 마음이 느긋해지더라고요.
After my son successfully finished his online exam, we stepped out for some fresh air at Kagoshima Chuo(Central) Park.
중앙공원에서는 마침 ‘肉肉パーク(니쿠니쿠 파크)’라는 고기 축제가 열리고 있었어요. 현수막에는 “肉肉だらけの肉祭り!”라고 적혀 있었는데, 말 그대로 고기로 가득한 축제라는 의미더라고요.
By coincidence, a meat festival called “Niku Niku Park” (literally “Meat Meat Park”) was taking place in the park. A banner read, “A meat festival filled with nothing but meat!”—and it truly lived up to its name.
가고시마는 흑돼지(쿠로부타)로 유명한 지역이라 그런지, 고기 요리를 판매하는 부스들이 줄지어 있었고 공원 전체가 맛있는 냄새로 가득했습니다. 주말을 즐기러 나온 현지 가족들도 많아 분위기가 꽤 활기찼어요.
Kagoshima is famous for its Kurobuta (black pork), and food stalls lined the park selling all kinds of meat dishes. The air was filled with the delicious aroma of grilled food, and many local families were out enjoying the weekend, giving the whole place a lively vibe.
그냥 지나치긴 아쉬워 돼지고기 꼬치와 소고기 꼬치를 하나씩 사 먹어봤어요. 숯불 향이 은은하게 배어 있어 맛있더라고요.
We couldn’t resist and bought one pork skewer and one beef skewer to share. The subtle charcoal flavor made them even more satisfying.
중앙 공원을 한바퀴 둘러본 후에는 야마가타야 백화점으로 향했어요. 야마가타야 백화점은 가고시마의 오래된 지역 백화점으로, 현지 사람들이 일상적으로 이용하는 곳이라고 해요.
After strolling around the park, we headed to Yamagataya, a long-established local department store that many residents use in their daily lives.

In the children’s section, we even picked up a new comfort blanket for my son.
식품관으로 올라가니 현지 주민들로 북적이고 있었어요. 마치 작은 시장에 온 듯 활기가 넘쳤고, 갓 만든 반찬과 도시락 코너 앞에는 줄도 보이더라고요. 여행지에서 이런 로컬 백화점 식품관을 구경하는 것도 은근히 재미있는 경험이었어요.
Upstairs, the food hall was bustling with locals. It felt almost like a small market, full of energy and activity. There were lines in front of the freshly prepared side dishes and bento counters. Exploring a local department store’s food hall like this turned out to be one of those unexpectedly enjoyable travel moments.
저녁은 식품관에서 만두와 여러 가지 회가 올라간 덮밥을 골라 숙소로 돌아와 편하게 먹었어요. 신선한 해산물이 푸짐하게 올라가 있어 한 입 먹을 때마다 만족스러웠어요.
For dinner, we picked up some dumplings and a rice bowl topped with assorted sashimi and brought them back to our hotel to enjoy at our own pace. The bowl was generously topped with fresh seafood, and every bite was deeply satisfying.
만두를 고르는 동안 직원분이 시식용도 하나씩 챙겨주셨는데, 친절한 마음 덕분인지 더 맛있게 느껴졌어요. 낯선 도시에서 만난 따뜻한 인심이 괜히 오래 기억에 남을 것 같습니다.
While choosing the dumplings, one of the staff kindly offered us samples to try. Perhaps it was that small gesture of warmth, but the dumplings tasted even better. It’s moments like these—the simple kindness of someone in a city far from home—that tend to linger the longest in my memory.
이렇게 가고시마에서의 3일차도 조용히 마무리되었습니다.
