가고시마 큐트패스로 사쿠라지마 桜島 여행｜페리 탑승, 족욕장, 전망대 다녀오기

장어 덮밥으로 든든하게 점심을 먹은 뒤, 사쿠라지마 관광을 위해 이동했어요. 가고시마의 상징과도 같은 사쿠라지마는 페리를 타고 들어가야 하는 화산섬이라, 교통편을 미리 정해두는 것이 좋아요.

저는 사쿠라지마 페리와 섬 내 아일랜드 뷰 버스를 모두 이용할 예정이어서 교통비를 아낄 수 있는 큐트패스를 구입했어요. 원데이 패스와 마찬가지로 사용 날짜를 긁어 활성화하는 방식이라, 당일 자유롭게 이용할 수 있어 편리했습니다.

After enjoying lunch at Sueyoshi, we headed out to explore Sakurajima. As one of the symbols of Kagoshima, Sakurajima is an active volcanic island that you can only reach by ferry, so it’s a good idea to plan your transportation in advance.
Since I was planning to take both the Sakurajima Ferry and the Island View Bus around the island, I purchased the Cute Pass to save on transportation costs. Like a typical one-day pass, you simply scratch off the date to activate it, and then you can use the included transportation freely for the rest of the day. It was very convenient.

트램도 타본 날

사쿠라지마 페리 터미널까지는 가고시마 시내 트램을 이용했어요. (*시야쿠쇼마역에서 도보로 약 5~10분 거리) 큐트패스에는 트램 이용도 포함되어 있어 추가 요금 없이 탑승할 수 있어요.
To get to the Sakurajima Ferry Terminal, I took the city tram in Kagoshima (about a 5–10 minute walk from Shiyakusho-mae Station). The tram ride is also covered by the Cute Pass, so there was no need to pay any additional fare.

사쿠라지마 페리는 매일 약 20분 간격으로 운항해 접근성이 좋은 편이에요. 다만 정기 점검이나 특정 휴무일이 있을 수 있으니, 방문 전에는 반드시 운항 일정을 미리 확인하고 가는 것이 좋아요.
저도 다음 날 한 번 더 방문해보고 싶었는데, 마침 그날이 페리 운항 휴무일이라 아쉽더라고요.
The Sakurajima Ferry runs approximately every 20 minutes, making it very accessible. However, there may be maintenance days or occasional service suspensions, so it’s best to check the schedule in advance. I actually wanted to visit once more the next day, but unfortunately the ferry wasn’t operating that day.

사쿠라지마로 출발!

페리는 내부 좌석과 외부 공간 모두 마련되어 있어 취향에 따라 편하게 이용할 수 있어요. 날씨가 좋다면 바깥에서 바닷바람을 맞으며 이동하는 것도 추천합니다.
The ferry offers both indoor seating and outdoor deck space, so you can choose whichever you prefer. If the weather is nice, I highly recommend standing outside and enjoying the sea breeze. 

노약자를 위한 매트 공간

배 안에는 간단한 간식을 구입할 수 있는 매점도 있고, 노약자를 위해 매트가 깔린 공간도 따로 마련되어 있었어요. 짧은 시간(15분) 운항하는 페리에서도 작은 부분까지 세심하게 배려한 모습이 인상적이라, 역시 일본답다는 생각이 들더라고요.
There’s also a small shop on board selling light snacks, and even a tatami-style mat area for elderly passengers. Despite the short 15-minute ride, I was impressed by the thoughtful details—very much what you’d expect in Japan.

사쿠라지마에서는 ‘아일랜드 뷰 버스(관광 순환버스)’를 이용하면 전망대와 주요 포인트를 편하게 둘러볼 수 있는데요. 큐트 패스로 무제한 탑승이 가능하고, 관광안내소에서 노선도와 시간표를 받을 수 있어, 이를 기준으로 코스를 계획하면 훨씬 수월해요.
On Sakurajima, the “Island View Bus” (a sightseeing loop bus) makes it easy to visit observatories and major points of interest. The Cute Pass allows unlimited rides, and you can pick up a route map and timetable at the tourist information center, which makes planning your stops much easier.

저는 가장 먼저 사쿠라지마 비지터 센터를 둘러본 후, 해안가 족욕탕으로 향했어요.
My first stop was the Sakurajima Visitor Center, where I learned more about the island’s volcanic history. After that, I headed to the seaside foot bath.

무료 족욕장 (여긴 너무 뜨겁…)

바다와 가까운 쪽에 위치한 족욕장은 물 온도가 상당히 뜨거워서 발을 담그기가 힘들었는데요..
(옆에 앉은 현지인들과 Hot!을 외치며 다급하게 발을 빼고 웃었던 기억이🤣)
The section closer to the ocean was surprisingly hot—so hot that I could barely keep my feet in the water! I still remember laughing with some locals next to me as we all exclaimed, “Hot!” and quickly pulled our feet out.

아름다운 바다뷰

반면, 사쿠라지마 화산을 바라보는 방향에 있는 족욕장은 온도가 비교적 적당해 편하게 이용할 수 있었어요. 이 날 날씨까지 좋아서 연기가 폴폴 나는 화산을 바라보며 했던 족욕을 잊을수가 없네요.
On the other hand, the foot bath facing Sakurajima Volcano was much more comfortable in temperature. The weather was beautiful that day, and soaking my feet while watching gentle smoke rise from the volcano is a moment I won’t forget anytime soon.

족욕장은 무료로 이용할 수 있지만 수건은 따로 준비되어 있지 않아요. 작은 타월 하나 미리 챙겨가면 훨씬 편하게 이용하실 수 있습니다 :)
The foot bath is free to use, but towels are not provided, so be sure to bring a small one with you.

핑크 뮬리 같은

다시 아일랜드뷰 버스를 타고 아카미즈 전망 광장에 들렀어요. 탁 트인 전망 덕분에 풍경을 여유롭게 감상할 수 있었습니다.
11월 말이었지만 햇살이 좋고 화산 근처라 그런지, 반팔을 입고 다녀도 괜찮을 만큼 날씨가 따뜻하더라고요.
Next, I took the Island View Bus again and stopped at the Akimizu Observatory. The open views allowed me to fully take in the scenery. Even though it was late November, the sunshine was so warm—perhaps because we were near the volcano—that it felt comfortable enough to walk around in short sleeves.

다른 각도에서 본 사쿠라지마

마지막으로 찾은 곳은 유노히라 전망대입니다. 사쿠라지마 섬에서 일반인이 올라갈 수 있는 가장 높은 지점으로, 전망이 특히 뛰어난 곳이에요.

여러 각도에서 바라본 사쿠라지마의 모습은 저마다 다른 분위기를 보여주었고, 그래서 더 매력적으로 느껴졌습니다. 가까이에서 보는 웅장함과 멀리서 바라보는 실루엣이 모두 인상적이었어요.

My final stop was the Yunohira Observatory, the highest point on Sakurajima accessible to the public. The views from there were especially impressive.
Seeing Sakurajima from different angles gave it completely different moods, which made it even more captivating. The powerful presence up close and the graceful silhouette from afar were both unforgettable.

기념품도 구입

전망대에 기념품샵도 있어서, 집 냉장고에 잘 어울릴만한 마그넷도 하나 구입했어요. 여행지마다 하나씩 모으는 작은 재미가 쏠쏠해요.
There was also a small souvenir shop at the observatory, where I picked up a magnet for my fridge—collecting one from each destination has become a fun little tradition. 

또 동그란 화산암을 100엔에 판매하고 있어서, 신기하더라고요. 인테리어 소품으로도 사용 가능하고, 화분에 넣어두면 물이 정화된다고.. 번역기가 알려주네요ㅎㅎ
사쿠라지마라는 장소의 특징이 그대로 담겨 있는 듯해 인상적이었어요.
I also noticed they were selling round pieces of volcanic rock for just 100 yen, which I found fascinating. According to the translation app, they can be used as decorative items or placed in plant pots to help purify water. It felt like a unique souvenir that truly reflects the character of Sakurajima.

이번에는 아일랜드뷰 버스를 이용해 이동했지만, 다음에 기회가 된다면 자전거를 타고 조금 더 여유롭게 섬을 돌아보고 싶다는 생각이 들었어요. 민간 버스를 이용하면 섬 전체를 한 바퀴 도는 것도 가능하다고 하니, 여행 스타일에 따라 다양한 방식으로 즐길 수 있는 곳이라는 점도 매력적으로 느껴졌습니다.

가까이에서 마주한 화산의 웅장함과 바다와 어우러진 풍경, 그리고 따뜻한 족욕까지. 사쿠라지마는 가고시마 여행에서 한 번쯤 꼭 들러보면 좋을 곳이라는 생각이 들어요.

This time, I explored the island by bus, but next time I’d love to rent a bicycle and take things at a slower pace. I also learned that you can circle the entire island by using local public buses. I really liked that there are multiple ways to explore, depending on your travel style.
From the powerful volcano up close to the beautiful coastal scenery and the relaxing foot bath, Sakurajima is definitely a place worth visiting at least once when traveling to Kagoshima.
