During this trip to the U.S., I connected through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and flew with Delta Air Lines on a domestic flight to Denver. It was my first time navigating a U.S. domestic flight on my own during a free independent trip, so I was honestly a little nervous at first. Thankfully, the entire journey turned out to be much smoother and more comfortable than I expected.

시애틀 공항에 도착한 뒤 미국 입국 심사를 마치고 수하물을 찾은 후, 다시 국내선 구간 수하물을 부치고 TSA 보안검색을 거쳐야 했어요. 공항 안내가 잘 되어 있어서 생각보다 어렵지는 않았습니다.
After arriving in Seattle, I went through U.S. immigration, picked up my checked luggage, rechecked it for the domestic flight, and then passed through TSA security screening again. Since it was my first time transferring from an international flight to a U.S. domestic flight, I expected the process to be confusing, but the airport signs and directions were actually very easy to follow.

도착한 날은 너무 춥고 피곤해서, 시애틀 공항 구경도 생략하고, 국내선 탑승 게이트 앞에서 대기했어요.
By the time I arrived, I was exhausted from the long flight and the cold weather, so instead of exploring the airport, I just stayed near the boarding gate and waited for our flight to Denver.
미국 국내선 이용 전에는 델타항공 앱도 사용해보고 싶었는데, 한국에서 사용하는 휴대폰이라 그런지 앱 설치가 되지 않더라고요. 대신 탑승 게이트 정보나 변경 사항은 문자로 안내가 왔어요.
Before the trip, I had wanted to try using the Delta Air Lines app, but for some reason I wasn't able to install it on my Korean phone. Thankfully, gate changes and boarding information were still sent through text messages, so it didn’t cause too much trouble.
제가 탑승했던 기종은 엠브라에르 175(Embraer 175)로, 이코노미 좌석 배열은 2-2 구조였어요. 미리 후기를 찾아봤을 때는 기체가 작은 편이라 흔들림이 크고 오버헤드빈도 없다는 이야기를 봐서 조금 걱정했는데, 실제로는 오버헤드빈도 있었고 생각보다 훨씬 쾌적했어요. 좌석도 예상보다 넓은 편이었고 시트도 푹신해서 편안하게 이동할 수 있었습니다. 아무래도 서양인 체형에 맞춰 제작된 좌석이라 그런지, 저에게는 오히려 더 여유롭게 느껴졌어요.
The aircraft for this route was an Embraer 175 with a 2-2 economy seat layout. Before the flight, I had seen reviews saying the plane felt quite small, had noticeable turbulence, and even lacked overhead bins, so I was a bit worried. But in reality, the overhead bins were completely normal, and the cabin felt far more comfortable than I expected. The seats were surprisingly spacious and nicely cushioned, which made the flight very comfortable overall. Since the seating seemed designed for Western body types, it actually felt roomier to me than some domestic flights I’ve taken in Korea.
찾아보니 엠브라에르 175는 브라질 항공기 제조사인 엠브라에르(Embraer)에서 제작한 소형 제트 여객기로, 미국 국내선이나 단거리 노선에서 자주 사용된다고 하더라고요. 기체 크기는 비교적 작은 편이지만, 실제 탑승해보니 예상보다 좌석 공간도 넉넉하고 탑승감도 안정적인 편이라 만족스러웠습니다.
I later found out that the Embraer 175 is a regional jet manufactured by the Brazilian aircraft company Embraer and is commonly used on short-haul and domestic routes within the U.S. Even though it’s considered a relatively small aircraft, the actual flying experience felt stable and much more pleasant than I had imagined.
덴버로 가는 동안에는 잠이 들어서 스낵 서비스는 제대로 이용하지 못했고, 나중에 승무원께 물만 한 컵 요청해서 받아 마셨어요. 그런데 미국은 기본 종이컵 크기가 8oz(약 236ml) 정도라 그런지, 대한항공에서 제공되는 컵보다 훨씬 큰 편이었어요.
무료 와이파이 서비스도 이용 가능했지만, 한국 앱 접속이 잘 되는 느낌은 아니었어요.
I ended up sleeping for most of the flight to Denver, so I completely missed the snack service. Later, I asked one of the flight attendants for a cup of water, and one thing that immediately stood out to me was the cup size in the U.S. — even the standard paper cups felt much larger than the ones usually served on Korean Air.
Free onboard Wi-Fi was also available, although Korean apps and websites didn’t seem to work particularly well during the flight.
시애틀에서 덴버까지는 약 2시간 30분 정도 소요됐어요. 비몽시몽이라 어떻게 왔는지도 모르겠는…😴 Mile High City 위의 변화무쌍한 하늘의 구름을 구경하는 것도 꽤 재밌었습니다.
The flight from Seattle to Denver took about two and a half hours. Honestly, I was so sleepy that I barely remember the flight itself 😴 Still, it was fun watching the constantly changing clouds outside the window above the Mile High City.
덴버 국제공항(DEN)에 무사히 착륙한 후에는 공항 트램을 타고 Westin Terminal Baggage Claim으로 이동했어요. 공항에서 직원들이 캐리어를 험하게 다루는 모습을 보긴 했지만, 수하물도 문제없이 잘 나온 것을 확인하고나니 안도가 되었어요.
After landing safely at Denver International Airport (DEN), we took the airport tram to the Westin Terminal baggage claim area. I did notice airport staff handling suitcases a bit roughly, which made me nervous for a moment, but thankfully our luggage arrived safely without any issues.

시애틀로 돌아가는 비행기는 이른 오전 시간대라 그런지 빈자리가 꽤 있는 편이었어요. 덕분에 갈 때보다 조금 더 여유로운 분위기에서 탑승할 수 있었습니다. 이번에도 델타항공은 특별한 지연 없이 정시에 출발했어요.
Our return flight to Seattle was scheduled early in the morning, so the cabin felt noticeably less crowded compared to the outbound flight. The atmosphere was much more relaxed, and once again, Delta departed right on time without any delays.
탑승 전에는 게이트 앞에서 재미있는 이벤트도 있었는데요. 푸쉬업을 가장 많이 한 승객에게 앞쪽 비즈니스 좌석으로 업그레이드를 해주겠다는 이벤트였어요. 실제로 한 청년분이 성공해서 앞쪽 좌석으로 이동하는 모습도 볼 수 있었는데, 미국 항공사다운 자유로운 분위기가 느껴져서 꽤 인상적이었어요.
Before boarding, there was actually a fun little event happening near the gate. The staff announced that the passenger who could do the most push-ups would receive an upgrade to a business-class seat near the front of the plane. A young man ended up winning and moved to the upgraded seat, and it was the kind of fun, casual event that would be hard to see in Korea, which made the whole moment even more memorable to me.
이번 덴버-시애틀 구간에서 탑승한 기종은 에어버스 A220-300(Airbus A220-300)이었어요. 좌석 배열은 2-3 구조였고, 비교적 최신 기종이라 그런지 기내 인테리어도 깔끔하고 전체적으로 쾌적한 느낌이었어요.
This time, the aircraft was an Airbus A220-300 with a 2-3 seating configuration. Since it’s a relatively newer aircraft, the cabin interior felt modern, clean, and overall much more spacious.
비행 중에는 간단한 스낵과 음료 서비스도 제공됐어요. 음료는 물, 주스, 스타벅스 커피, 맥주 등 다양하게 준비되어 있었고, 스낵은 과자나 비스킷, 그래놀라 바 중에서 선택할 수 있었어요.
During the flight, Delta provided complimentary snacks and drinks. Beverage options included water, juice, Starbucks coffee, beer, and more. For snacks, passengers could choose between crackers, biscuits, or granola bars.
짝꿍은 스타벅스 디카페인을 선택했는데, 뜨거운 물과 VIA 인스턴트 커피를 주시더라고요. 기호에 따라 연하게, 혹은 진하게 타서 마실 수 있었어요.
My husband chose the Starbucks decaf coffee, and the flight attendant handed him a cup of hot water along with a VIA instant coffee packet so he could adjust the strength however he liked.
저는 사과주스와 초코 그래놀라를 선택했어요. 사과주스에는 얼음까지 가득 담아주셔서 역시 음료 양에는 관대한 미국 느낌이 나더라고요. 이른 아침 비행이라 조금 허기졌던 배를, 그래놀라로 간단하게 달랠 수 있었습니다.
I chose apple juice and a chocolate granola bar. The apple juice came with plenty of ice, and once again, the generous drink size surprised me. Since it was an early morning flight, the granola bar was actually the perfect light snack.
아이는 간식으로 비스코프 비스킷을 선택했는데, 델타 로고가 그려져 있어서 신기했어요. 한 봉지에 2개가 들어 있었고, 크기도 한국에서 먹던 비스코프보다 더 큰 느낌이라 재밌었습니다.
My child picked the Biscoff biscuits, and it was fun seeing the Delta logo printed on the package. Each pack came with two cookies, and somehow they even seemed larger than the Biscoff cookies we usually see in Korea.
비행 중간에는 화장실도 다녀왔는데, 덴버행 비행기보다 훨씬 깔끔해서 새 비행기 느낌이 나더라고요. 화장실도 굉장히 깨끗하게 관리되어 있었고, 작은 창문까지 있어서 개방감이 느껴졌어요.
At one point during the flight, I visited the restroom, and it felt much cleaner and newer compared to the one on our Denver-bound flight. It even had a small window, which made the space feel surprisingly bright and open.
제가 비행 중 졸고 있을 때, 승무원분이 아이에게 다가와 “Would you like Delta Wings?” 하고 말을 거시더라고요. 그리고는 델타 로고가 있는 작은 날개 배지를 선물처럼 주고 가셨어요.
미국 항공사 승무원들은 다소 무뚝뚝하거나 불친절하다는 후기도 많이 봤었는데, 이번에 만난 승무원분들은 전체적으로 굉장히 친절한 분위기였어요. 특히 아이에게도 다정하게 대해주셔서 여행 마지막까지 기분 좋게 이동할 수 있었습니다.
While I was dozing off, one of the flight attendants approached my child and asked, “Would you like Delta Wings?” He then gave him a small Delta wings pin as a gift.
The flight attendants were especially sweet to my child, which made the final part of our trip feel even more memorable.
시애틀에 도착했을 때는 날씨가 정말 화창해서, 미국 여행을 마무리하고 떠난다는 게 더 아쉽게 느껴졌어요. 처음에는 미국 국내선을 직접 이용하는 게 걱정도 많았지만, 실제로 경험해보니 생각보다 훨씬 편안하고 시스템도 잘 되어 있어서 큰 어려움 없이 이동할 수 있었습니다. 델타항공 역시 전반적으로 정시 운항이나 기내 분위기, 승무원 응대까지 만족스러웠고, 덕분에 미국 국내선에 대한 막연한 걱정도 많이 줄어들었어요.

By the time we arrived back in Seattle, the weather was beautifully sunny, which somehow made it feel even more bittersweet that our trip was coming to an end.
At first, I was honestly worried about navigating U.S. domestic flights on my own, but after experiencing it firsthand, everything felt much more organized and manageable than I had expected. Overall, I was very satisfied with Delta Air Lines — from the on-time departures to the comfortable cabin atmosphere and friendly service.
This experience definitely eased many of my worries about flying domestically within the United States, and now I’m already looking forward to my next trip.
