DDP(동대문디자인플라자)에서 진행된 에르메스 체험형 팝업 ‘Mystery at the Grooms’에 다녀왔어요. 인스타그램 광고를 볼 때마다 궁금했던 전시였는데, 전시 기간이 짧은 데다 집안일도 많아서 갈까 말까 고민을 많이 했거든요. 그런데 막상 다녀와 보니 괜한 고민이었다 싶을 만큼 재미있고 만족스러운 시간이었습니다.
I recently visited Hermès Mystery at the Grooms', an interactive pop-up experience held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul.
I'd been curious about it ever since the ads started showing up on my Instagram feed. Since the event only ran for a limited time, I kept going back and forth about whether I should make time for it. But I'm really glad I went—it ended up being one of the most enjoyable exhibitions I've visited in a while.
전시는 DDP 아트홀에서 진행되었어요. 저는 온라인으로 미리 예약 후 방문했습니다. 현장 예매도 가능했지만, 마지막 날이라 그런지 관람객이 정말 많더라고요.
The exhibition was held at the DDP Art Hall, and I booked my ticket online in advance. Walk-in admission was also available, but since I visited on the final day, the venue was noticeably crowded with visitors.
온라인 예매 내역을 확인한 뒤 티켓으로 교환했어요. 티켓에 있는 QR 코드를 스캔하면 미션 페이지가 열리는데요.
After checking in with my online reservation, I received an admission ticket with a QR code. Scanning it opened the event's mission page, which visitors use throughout the experience.
이 페이지에서 간단한 미니 게임도 체험할 수 있었어요. 말을 조종해 장애물을 피해 점프하는 게임으로, 광장에 입장하길 기다리며 몇 번 플레이해보았습니다 :)
While waiting to enter the Courtyard, I discovered a small mini-game on the website. It was a simple obstacle-jumping game where you guide a horse past various barriers. Nothing complicated, but it was a fun way to pass the time before the main event began.
잠시 후 광장에 입장하자 마부들이 등장해 사라진 말들에 대한 이야기를 들려주고 미션을 안내해 주었어요. 단순한 설명이 아니라 실제 마부가 된 것처럼 상황극을 펼치며 스토리를 이어가는데, 덕분에 전시에 더욱 몰입할 수 있었어요. 알고 보니 무려 30마리의 말이 탈출한 상황!
Once everyone had gathered in the Courtyard, the grooms appeared and introduced the story behind the mission. Rather than simply explaining the rules, they fully embraced their roles and performed as if they were actual staff members of the Grooms' House, which immediately drew visitors into the experience.
The premise was simple: 30 horses had gone missing, and it was up to us to find them.
관람객은 6개의 공간을 돌아다니며 곳곳에 숨어 있는 말들을 찾아야 하는데요. 어떤 말은 금방 눈에 띄었지만, 어떤 말은 오브제 패턴 속에 교묘하게 숨어 있어 생각보다 집중해서 찾아야 하더라고요. 저는 다 못 찾았습니다…😂
From there, visitors moved through six different rooms in search of the escaped horses.
✅ 다이닝룸
각 공간은 에르메스의 다양한 오브제로 꾸며져 있었는데요. 단순히 미션을 수행하는 공간이 아니라, 에르메스 특유의 감각적인 디스플레이를 구경하는 재미가 있었어요.
Each space was filled with playful Hermès-inspired displays and beautifully arranged objects. The rooms all had their own unique atmosphere, making it enjoyable to explore even aside from the mission itself.

공간마다 분위기가 다르다보니, 하나하나 구경하는 것만으로도 눈이 즐거웠어요. 에르메스를 좋아하는 분들이라면 미션보다 오브제를 구경하는 데 더 많은 시간을 보내게 될지도 모르겠습니다…😂
The horses weren't always easy to spot. Some were hidden within illustrations, while others were cleverly incorporated into the décor and objects throughout the rooms. The exhibition naturally encouraged visitors to slow down and pay attention to details they might otherwise overlook.
✅ 수석 마부의 집무실
방탈출 게임처럼 단서를 찾고 힌트를 발견하는 과정도 꽤 흥미로웠어요. 암호를 해독하고 금고를 열어 힌트를 찾는 요소도 있었는데, 사람이 많아 직접 체험해 보지는 못해 아쉬웠어요.
What I enjoyed most was how interactive everything felt. The experience had a bit of an escape-room vibe, with clues hidden throughout the space and puzzles that revealed additional hints. Some visitors were busy cracking codes and opening safes to uncover clues. It was quite crowded when I visited, so I didn't get a chance to try those activities myself, but they definitely added another layer of fun to the experience.

한편 전시된 오브제 중에는 에르메스의 고가 제품들도 포함되어 있다 보니, 각 공간에는 마부 역할을 맡은 스태프 외에도 보안 요원이 한 분씩 배치되어 있었어요. 덕분에 작품과 관람객 모두 안전하게 관리되고 있다는 느낌을 받을 수 있었습니다.
Since many of the displays featured valuable Hermès pieces, each room had both a groom guiding visitors and a security staff member keeping an eye on things.
모든 공간을 둘러본 뒤에는 정원에서 게임이 종료되고, 찾은 말들의 결과를 확인할 수 있어요. 저는 말을 다 찾지 못했는데 5성급 탐정이라는 결과가 나왔더라고요…😆 정원에는 포토 스팟도 마련되어 있어 기념사진을 남기기 좋았어요.
After completing all six rooms, everyone returned to the Courtyard to finish the game and view their results. Visitors could download their final results afterward. I didn't manage to find nearly as many horses as I expected, yet somehow I still received a "5-Star Detective" rating, which gave me a good laugh.
There was also a photo area set up near the exit, making it easy to capture a few memories before leaving.
이번 팝업은 혼자 왔지만, 알차게 즐기고 왔어요. 친구와 함께 와도 좋고, 아이와 함께 방문해도 즐거운 시간이 될 것 같다는 생각이 들었어요. (다만 관람 연령은 10세 이상으로 제한되어있더라고요.)
Although I visited on my own, I never felt out of place. The experience would be just as fun with friends, and I can easily imagine older kids enjoying it as well. (The event was limited to visitors aged 10 and up.)
관람을 마치고 나오면 에르메스에서 준비한 예쁜 노트도 받을 수 있어요…🧡
일에 치여서 갈까 말까 고민했지만, 막상 다녀오고 나니 시간을 내길 잘했다는 생각이 들었어요. 에르메스의 위트 있는 스토리와 아름다운 오브제들을 구경하며 잠시나마 일상에서 벗어나 즐거운 시간을 보낼 수 있었어요. 약 1시간 동안 펼쳐진 에르메스만의 유쾌한 세계관 덕분에 오랜만에 기분 좋은 시간을 보냈습니다.
Before leaving, everyone received a small gift from Hermès. Mine was a beautifully designed notebook, which felt like a thoughtful finishing touch.
I almost talked myself out of going, but I'm glad I didn't. For about an hour, I got to step away from my daily routine and immerse myself in Hermès' playful storytelling and beautifully crafted world. It was a fun, lighthearted experience and a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
