미국 덴버 여행 | 다운타운 가볼 만한 곳 추천

덴버 여행 중 다운타운을 걸으며 둘러본 곳들을 간단하게 정리해 봤어요 :)
다운타운은 주요 관광지가 도보권에 모여 있어 천천히 산책하며, 여행하기 좋은 곳이었어요. 다만 저녁 8시 이후에는 노숙자가 눈에 띄게 많아져서, 저희는 늦은 시간 외출은 피하고 호텔로 돌아가는 편을 선택했습니다.
During our trip to Denver, we spent some time exploring downtown on foot. Most of the city's main attractions are within walking distance, making it easy to enjoy a relaxed stroll while sightseeing.

✅ Big Blue Bear

덴버를 대표하는 랜드마크 중 하나인, 거대한 파란 곰 조형물이에요. 콜로라도 컨벤션 센터 창문을 들여다보는 모습을 배경으로 많은 사람들이 기념사진을 남기는 포토 스팟이에요. 개인적으로는 "왜 이렇게까지 유명할까?" 하는 생각도 들었지만, 덴버를 상징하는 명소인 만큼 한 번쯤 들러 사진을 남기기에는 괜찮았습니다. 

Big Blue Bear 평일 오후에 방문하니, 한산했다.

The Big Blue Bear is one of Denver's most recognizable landmarks. The giant blue bear peeking into the Colorado Convention Center has become a popular photo spot. To be honest, I wasn't quite sure why it's that famous, but it's still worth stopping by for a quick picture while you're in downtown Denver.

✅ Union Station

유니온 스테이션은 100년이 넘는 역사를 가진 덴버의 대표 명소입니다. 현재는 기차역뿐 아니라 카페와 레스토랑이 함께 있는 복합문화공간으로, 잠시 쉬어가기에도 좋은 곳이에요. 역 내부에는 깔끔한 공중화장실도 있어, 관광 중 화장실이 필요할 때 유용했어요.

Denver Union Station is over 100 years old and remains one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Today, it's much more than a train station, with cafés, restaurants, and plenty of seating to relax for a while. It also has clean public restrooms, which came in handy during our sightseeing.

✅ Coors Field

쿠어스 필드는 메이저리그 콜로라도 로키스의 홈구장이에요. 저희는 외관만 둘러봤지만, 경기장 특유의 활기찬 분위기를 느낄 수 있었어요. 다음에 덴버를 다시 방문하게 된다면 메이저리그 경기도 직접 관람해 보고 싶네요.

Coors Field is home to the Colorado Rockies, Denver's Major League Baseball team. We only walked around the outside of the stadium, but it was fun to soak in the atmosphere. Hopefully, we'll be back someday to watch a game in person.

✅ RiNo Art District

RiNo는 'River North'의 약자로, 창고와 공장 지대를 예술가들이 채워 넣으며 지금의 감각적인 아트 디스트릭트로 변신한 곳이에요. 한때 미술을 전공했던 터라 곳곳에 그려진 대형 벽화와 그래피티를 구경하는 재미가 있었고, 감각적인 카페와 로컬 숍을 둘러보는 것도 즐거웠어요. 덴버 센트럴 마켓도 있어 구경한 뒤 간단히 식사하기에도 좋았습니다.
RiNo stands for River North, a former warehouse district that has been transformed into one of Denver's most creative neighborhoods. Since I studied art years ago, I especially enjoyed wandering around and admiring the colorful murals and street art. The area is also filled with trendy cafés, local shops, and Denver Central Market, making it a great place to spend a few hours.

근처에는 파타고니아 매장도 있어 들러봤는데, 환율과 가격을 보니 선뜻 구매하기는 어렵더라고요. 직원분이 아이에게 'Patagonia Denver Colorado' 스티커를 선물해 주셔서 더욱 기분 좋게 둘러보고 왔습니다.

We also stopped by the Patagonia store nearby. The exchange rate and prices kept me from buying anything, but one of the staff members gave my son a "Patagonia Denver, Colorado" sticker, which made the visit even more memorable.

✅ Colorado State Capitol

금빛 돔이 인상적인 콜로라도 주의사당입니다. 계단에는 해발 5,280피트(1 Mile High)를 표시한 지점이 있어 덴버를 상징하는 명소 중 하나로 알려져 있어요. 다만 제가 방문했을 때는 주변에 홈리스가 꽤 많이 보여 조금 조심스러운 분위기였고, 저희는 멀리서 둘러본 뒤 이동했어요.

Colorado State Capitol

The Colorado State Capitol is easy to recognize with its beautiful gold dome. One of its most famous features is the 1 Mile High marker on the steps, which sits exactly 5,280 feet above sea level. When we visited, there were quite a few homeless people around the area, so we decided to admire the building from a distance before moving on.

✅ 16th Street

다운타운 중심을 따라 이어지는 대표 거리입니다. 다양한 브랜드 매장과 기념품 숍, 식당, 카페가 모여 있으며, 중앙 차로에서는 무료 셔틀버스(Free MallRide)가 운행되어 편리하게 이동할 수 있어요.
16th Street is one of the main streets in downtown Denver, lined with shops, restaurants, cafés, and souvenir stores. The free MallRide shuttle runs along the center of the street, making it easy to get around without a car.

저는 덴버 파빌리온즈 건물 2층에 위치한 '아이하트덴버' 기념품 가게에서 마그네틱과 연필을 구입했는데요. 여기가 매장이 깔끔하고, 아기자기한 기념품을 많이 판매하더라고요.

We picked up a few souvenirs at I Heart Denver, located on the second floor of Denver Pavilions. The store was clean, well organized, and full of unique local gifts. We ended up buying a magnet and a few pencils to bring home.

✅ Larimer Square

덴버에서 가장 오래된 거리 중 하나로, 아기자기한 상점과 레스토랑이 모여 있는 곳이에요. 거리 위를 장식한 조명 덕분에 특히 저녁이 되면 분위기가 더욱 멋져 산책하기 좋다고 하더라고요. 제가 방문했을 때는 하키 시즌이라 콜로라도 애벌랜치(Colorado Avalanche)를 응원하는 장식도 곳곳에서 볼 수 있었는데, 다음에는 기회가 된다면 NHL 경기도 직접 관람해 보고 싶다는 생각이 들었습니다.

Larimer Square

Larimer Square is one of Denver's oldest and most charming streets. It's known for its local boutiques, restaurants, and the string lights that create a cozy atmosphere in the evening. When we visited, it was hockey season, and decorations supporting the Colorado Avalanche could be seen throughout the area. It made me wish we had time to catch an NHL game during our trip.

걷다가 찍어본 Welton Street

3박 4일 동안 덴버 다운타운을 걸어 다니며 하루 평균 2만 보 정도를 걸었는데, 해발 약 1,600m의 고지대라 걱정했던 것과 달리 생각보다 힘들지는 않았어요. 공기도 건조하고 쾌적한 편이라 천천히 산책하며 여행하기 좋았습니다.
개인적으로는 LA나 뉴욕 같은 미국의 대도시 다운타운과 비교했을 때 조금 더 여유롭고 쾌적한 분위기라는 인상을 받았어요. 물론 늦은 저녁에는 노숙자가 많이 보여 일찍 호텔로 돌아오긴 했지만, 낮 시간에는 큰 불편 없이 다운타운을 둘러볼 수 있었습니다.
이번 여행에서는 주요 명소 위주로 둘러봤는데, 덴버 미술관(Denver Art Museum)과 박물관은 일정상 방문하지 못한 점이 조금 아쉬웠어요. 다음에 덴버를 다시 찾게 된다면 이번에 가지 못했던 곳들을 중심으로 조금 더 여유롭게 둘러보고 싶습니다 :)

During our four-day, three-night stay in Denver, we walked around 20,000 steps each day. Even though Denver sits about 1,600 meters (5,280 feet) above sea level, it wasn't nearly as tiring as I had expected. The dry climate and walkable downtown made exploring the city surprisingly comfortable.
Compared with downtown areas in larger U.S. cities like Los Angeles or New York, Denver felt a bit more relaxed and less crowded. We did notice more homeless people after dark, so we usually returned to our hotel in the evening, but during the day we had no trouble exploring the city.
Although we visited many of Denver's major attractions, I was a little disappointed that we didn't have time for the Denver Art Museum or some of the other museums. Hopefully, we'll have another chance to come back and explore even more of the city next time.
