덴버 여행에서 가장 처음으로 방문한 관광지는 Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre와 Garden of the Gods였어요. 두 곳 모두 콜로라도를 대표하는 자연 명소로, 덴버 근교 여행 코스로도 정말 유명한 곳인데요. 직접 가보니 왜 많은 사람들이 추천하는지 알겠더라고요. 미국 서부 특유의 광활한 풍경과 붉은 바위 절경이 특히 인상적이었고, 덴버 여행 중 가볍게 들르기 좋은 코스였어요.
The first sightseeing spots I visited during my trip to Denver were Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre and Garden of the Gods. Both are well-known landmarks in Colorado and are especially popular as day-trip destinations from Denver. After visiting them myself, I could immediately understand why so many people recommend these places. The wide-open landscapes and dramatic red rock formations were especially impressive and made a strong first impression during my Colorado trip.

먼저 방문한 곳은 덴버에서 차로 약 30분 정도 떨어진 Red Rocks Amphitheatre였어요. 레드락스 앰피시어터는 거대한 붉은 암석 사이에 만들어진 야외 공연장으로, 콜로라도 여행에서 빠지지 않는 필수 명소 중 하나예요.
The first place we visited was Red Rocks Amphitheatre, located about 30 minutes from downtown Denver by car. Red Rocks is an open-air concert venue built between massive red rock formations, and it’s considered one of the must-visit attractions in Colorado.
공연이 없는 날에는 자유롭게 입장이 가능해서 많은 사람들이 덴버 근교 드라이브 코스로 방문하더라고요. 거대한 붉은 바위가 자연적으로 음향 효과를 만들어주는 구조라 세계적으로도 유명한 공연장이라고 해요. 직접 가보니 자연과 건축이 조화롭게 어우러진 특별한 공간이라는 느낌이 들었어요.
운동하는 현지인들도 정말 많았는데, 고도가 있다 보니 계단만 올라가도 숨이 꽤 차더라고요. 방문 예정이라면 편한 운동화는 필수입니다.
On days without concerts, visitors are free to explore the venue, which is why many people stop by as part of a scenic drive near Denver. The enormous red rocks naturally create incredible acoustics, making Red Rocks one of the most famous outdoor concert venues in the world. Seeing it in person, it really felt like a unique space where nature and architecture blend together beautifully.
There were also many locals exercising on the stairs, and because of the high elevation, I got out of breath surprisingly quickly just from climbing a few steps. If you’re planning to visit, comfortable walking shoes are definitely recommended.
공연장 위쪽에서는 콜로라도 풍경이 한눈에 내려다보이는데, 탁 트인 전망이 정말 인상적이더라고요. 특히 해 질 무렵 방문하면 붉은 바위 색감이 훨씬 진하게 보여서 사진 찍기 정말 좋다고 해요.
From the top of the amphitheater, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Colorado landscape, and the open scenery was absolutely stunning. I’ve heard that visiting around sunset is especially beautiful because the red rocks appear even more vibrant in the evening light.
구경을 마친 뒤에는 Upper North 주차장 입구 근처에 있는 Visitor Center에도 들러봤어요. 내부에는 Red Rocks Amphitheatre에서 공연했던 유명 가수들과 공연 기록들이 전시되어 있어서 생각보다 볼거리가 많더라고요. 공연장 역사와 함께 다양한 사진이나 기념 전시들도 볼 수 있어서 잠시 쉬어가기에도 괜찮은 공간이었어요.
After exploring the amphitheater, we stopped by the Visitor Center near the entrance to the Upper North parking lot. Inside, there were exhibits featuring famous artists who had performed at Red Rocks, along with displays showcasing the venue’s concert history and memorabilia. There was much more to see than I expected, and it was also a nice place to take a short break while learning more about the amphitheater.
기념품샵도 잠시 둘러봤는데, 공연장 관련 굿즈부터 콜로라도 느낌이 나는 아이템들까지 종류가 꽤 다양하더라고요. 음악을 좋아하거나 악기를 취미로 하는 지인에게는 기타 피크 같은 기념품도 선물용으로 괜찮아 보였어요. 저도 여행 기념으로 Red Rocks Amphitheatre 일러스트가 그려진 냉장고 자석 하나를 구매했는데, 여행지마다 자석을 하나씩 모으는 재미가 있어서 이번 덴버 여행에서도 자연스럽게 기념품샵 구경을 오래 하게 되더라고요.
We also spent some time browsing the gift shop, which sold everything from Red Rocks merchandise to Colorado-themed souvenirs. Guitar picks looked like fun gifts for friends who enjoy music or play instruments. I ended up buying a refrigerator magnet featuring an illustration of Red Rocks Amphitheatre as a souvenir. I always enjoy collecting magnets from different travel destinations, so I naturally spent quite a while looking around the gift shop during this trip as well.
그 다음날은, 콜로라도 스프링스에 위치한 Garden of the Gods(신들의 정원)에 방문했어요. 과거 이 지역을 방문한 탐험가가 풍경을 보고 “신들이 모일 만한 장소 같다”라고 표현한 것에서 유래했다고 해요. 실제로 가보니 왜 ‘신들의 정원’이라는 이름이 붙었는지 바로 이해가 되더라고요. 거대한 붉은 바위들이 산맥 앞에 펼쳐진 풍경이 정말 웅장합니다.
The next day, we visited Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. The name is said to have originated when an explorer described the area as “a place fit for the gods to assemble.” After seeing the scenery in person, I completely understood why it was given the name “Garden of the Gods.” The enormous red rock formations rising in front of the mountains created such a dramatic and breathtaking landscape.

공원 내에는 전체 약도가 안내되어 있었는데, 생각보다 트레일 코스가 다양하더라고요. 코스를 따라 길게 걸으면 1~2시간 정도 여유롭게 둘러볼 수 있는 규모였어요. 다만 저희는 이날 다른 일정도 있어서 주차장과 가까운 메인 구역 위주로 가볍게 둘러봤어요. 짧게만 걸어도 대표적인 붉은 바위 풍경은 충분히 감상할 수 있습니다.
Near the entrance, there was a large map showing the different trail routes, and I was surprised by how many trails the park had. If you follow the longer routes, you could easily spend one to two hours exploring the area. However, since we had other plans that day, we mostly stayed around the main sections near the parking lot. Even with a short walk, we were still able to fully appreciate the park’s iconic red rock scenery.
트레일 입구 쪽에는 뱀 경고문도 있었어요. 실제로 야생동물이 나올 수 있는 지역이라 트레일을 벗어나지 말라는 안내가 계속 보이더라고요.
There were also warning signs about rattlesnakes near the trail entrances. Since this is a protected natural area where wildlife can appear, there were repeated reminders not to leave the designated trails.
암석이 붉은색을 띠는 이유는 바위에 포함된 철 성분이 오랜 시간 산화되면서 지금과 같은 색이 만들어졌기 때문이라고 해요. 이날은 날씨도 정말 맑아서, 쪽빛 하늘과 대비되는 붉은 바위 풍경이 특히 더 인상적으로 느껴졌어요. 사진이 실물을 다 담지 못해 아쉬워요.
The rocks appear red because of iron minerals within the sandstone that oxidized over time, creating their distinctive color. The weather was incredibly clear that day, and the contrast between the deep blue sky and the vivid red rocks made the scenery feel even more striking. Honestly, photos don’t fully capture how impressive it looked in person.
마지막 사진은 Garden of the Gods의 유명한 뷰포인트 중 하나인 Balanced Rock이에요. 이름 그대로 거대한 바위가 아슬아슬하게 균형을 잡고 서 있는 모습이 정말 신기하더라고요. 자연 침식으로 만들어진 암석이라고 하는데, 금방이라도 떨어질 것처럼 보여서 저희도 기념으로 사진을 남기고 왔어요.
The last photo is of one of the park’s most famous formations, Balanced Rock. As the name suggests, it’s a huge rock balancing in a way that almost looks impossible. It was formed naturally through erosion, but it looked like it could topple over at any moment, which made it even more fascinating to see in person. Many visitors were taking photos there because it’s such an iconic landmark.
이번 덴버 여행에서는 미국 특유의 대자연을 경험할 수 있었는데, 그 시작을 Red Rocks Amphitheatre와 Garden of the Gods가 열어준 느낌이었어요. 쪽빛 하늘 아래 펼쳐진 붉은 바위 풍경이 아직도 기억에 남고, 콜로라도만의 분위기를 제대로 느낄 수 있는 시간이었습니다 :)
During this Denver trip, I was able to experience so many incredible natural landscapes, and it felt like Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Garden of the Gods were the perfect introduction to Colorado’s scenery. The vivid red rocks beneath the bright blue sky are still unforgettable, and visiting these places gave me a chance to truly experience the unique atmosphere of Colorado.
