미국 서부 여행 맛집 | 인앤아웃버거(IN-N-OUT) 후기

신들의 정원(Garden of the Gods)을 둘러본 뒤, 점심을 먹기 위해 인앤아웃 버거에 방문했어요. 인앤아웃 버거는 미국 서부 여행을 하면 한 번쯤 들르게 되는 대표적인 햄버거 체인점인데요. 미국 현지인들에게도 인기가 많아 언제 가도 손님들로 북적이는 곳입니다.
이번 여행에서 인앤아웃 버거를 두세 번은 먹고 싶었는데 일정상 한 번밖에 방문하지 못해서 조금 아쉬웠어요. 미국은 워낙 가볼 곳도 많고 이동 거리도 길다 보니 여행 내내 늘 바쁘네요... 😂

After exploring Garden of the Gods, we stopped by In-N-Out Burger for lunch.

In-N-Out is one of the most iconic burger chains in the western United States and a place many travelers end up visiting at least once during a West Coast road trip. It's also incredibly popular with locals, so the restaurants always seem busy no matter when you visit.

I had hoped to eat In-N-Out two or three times during this trip, but we only managed to visit once because our schedule was packed. There are always so many places to see in the U.S., and the long driving distances somehow make every trip feel busier than expected!

인앤아웃 메뉴

인앤아웃은 메뉴판만 보면 굉장히 단순해요. 대표 메뉴는 햄버거, 치즈버거, 더블더블 버거 정도라 선택지가 많지 않은 것처럼 보이는데요. 하지만 공식 메뉴판에는 없는 시크릿 메뉴가 있답니다. 그중 가장 유명한 게 바로 애니멀 스타일(Animal Style) 감자튀김! :)
이외에도 그릴드 어니언(Grilled Onions)을 추가하거나, 버거 재료 구성을 변경하는 등 취향에 맞게 주문할 수 있어요. 옵션이 워낙 다양하다 보니 처음에는 조금 복잡해 보였는데, 직원분들은 익숙한 듯 주문을 척척 받아주시더라고요.

At first glance, the In-N-Out menu looks surprisingly simple. The main options are basically hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and Double-Doubles, so it doesn't seem like there are many choices. However, In-N-Out is also famous for its secret menu. One of the most popular items is the Animal Style Fries.

You can also customize your order in many different ways, such as adding grilled onions or modifying the burger ingredients to suit your preferences. 

Fountain Drinks

음료는 주문 후 셀프로 원하는 만큼 리필해서 마실 수 있었어요. 미국 패스트푸드 매장답게 다양한 탄산음료가 준비되어 있었고, 레몬에이드와 아이스티, 그리고 조각 레몬도 마련되어 있어 취향에 따라 음료에 넣어 마실 수 있어요.

After ordering, drinks are self-serve and come with free refills. Like many American fast-food restaurants, there was a wide selection of soft drinks available. Lemonade, iced tea, and fresh lemon slices were also provided, so you could customize your drink however you liked.

음료 스테이션 한쪽에는 빨대와 컵 뚜껑, 스위트너 등이 정리되어 있었는데요. 필요한 만큼 직접 가져다 사용할 수 있어 편리했어요.

Next to the drink station, there were straws, cup lids, sweeteners, and other essentials neatly organized for customers.

케찹과 할라피뇨

케첩과 할라피뇨도 원하는 만큼 직접 가져다 먹을 수 있습니다.

Ketchup and jalapeños were also available, and you could help yourself to as much as you wanted.

감자튀김

세트를 여러개 주문했더니, 빨간 트레이에 감자는 감자끼리, 버거는 버거끼리 한가득 담아주셨어요. 인앤아웃 감자튀김은 냉동 제품이 아니라 매장에서 직접 감자를 손질해 만든다고 알려져 있는데요. 모양이 얇고 바삭해서 매장에서 따뜻할 때 먹으면 정말 맛있어요.

Since we ordered several combo meals, everything arrived piled high on the signature red trays—burgers on one tray and fries on another. In-N-Out fries are known for being made from fresh potatoes prepared in-store rather than frozen fries. They are thin and crispy, and taste best when eaten hot and fresh.

애니멀 스타일 프라이

애니멀 스타일 프라이는 감자튀김 위에 치즈와 새콤한 스프레드 소스, 그리고 구운 양파가 듬뿍 올라가 있어요. 일반 감자튀김과는 또 다른 매력이 있는 메뉴입니다.
다만 소스와 치즈가 올라가다 보니 시간이 지나면 감자튀김이 금방 눅눅해지는 편이에요. 두명 이상이 함께 먹는다면, 일반 감자튀김과 애니멀 스타일 프라이를 하나씩 주문해서 나눠먹는 걸 추천드려요.

The Animal Style Fries are topped with melted cheese, tangy spread, and plenty of grilled onions. They have a completely different flavor from the regular fries and are definitely worth trying.

That said, because of the cheese and sauce, the fries can become soggy fairly quickly. If you're dining with at least one other person, I would recommend ordering one regular fry and one Animal Style Fry to share. That way, you can enjoy both versions.

치즈버거

치즈버거는 두툼한 패티와 신선한 채소, 치즈가 노릇하게 구워진 번 사이에 들어가 있어요. 저는 그릴드 어니언(Grilled Onion)만 추가해서 주문했습니다.
미국 햄버거라고 하면 자극적이고 기름진 맛을 떠올리기 쉬운데, 인앤아웃 치즈버거는 그에 비해 담백한 편이에요.

For my burger, I ordered a Cheeseburger with grilled onions. It featured a thick beef patty, fresh vegetables, cheese, and a lightly toasted bun.

When people think of American burgers, they often imagine something rich, greasy, and heavy. Compared to that image, the In-N-Out Cheeseburger felt surprisingly fresh and simple. The flavors of the beef, vegetables, and other ingredients really stood out.

아쉬우니 한장 더…

인앤아웃 버거는 미국 여행 중 한 번쯤 들러볼 만한 햄버거 체인점이에요. 재료 본연의 맛이 느껴지는 신선한 치즈버거와 애니멀 스타일 프라이는 인앤아웃만의 매력을 느낄 수 있는 메뉴였습니다 :)

무엇보다 아이들도 맛있게 먹어서 가족 여행 중 한 끼 식사로 만족스러웠어요. 이번 여행에서는 한 번밖에 방문하지 못해 아쉬웠지만, 미국 서부 여행을 또 하게 된다면 꼭 다시 들러보고 싶어요.

Overall, In-N-Out Burger is definitely worth trying during a trip to the United States. The fresh cheeseburger and Animal Style Fries showcase what makes the chain so popular and unique.

Most importantly, my kids enjoyed their burgers as well, which made it a great family-friendly meal during our trip. I only got to visit once this time, which was a little disappointing, but if I find myself traveling through the American West again, I'll definitely stop by for another meal.
