덴버 다운타운 여행하면서, 현지인들에게 인기 있는 미국식 다이너 Sam’s No.3에 다녀왔어요. 저희가 숙박했던 Holiday Inn Express Denver Downtown에서 걸어서 약 10분 거리라 다운타운 도착한 첫 날, 체크인 후 저녁 식사하러 방문했어요.
During our trip to downtown Denver, we stopped by Sam's No.3, a popular American diner loved by both locals and visitors. Since it was only about a 10-minute walk from Holiday Inn Express Denver Downtown, where we were staying, we decided to have dinner there after checking into our hotel on the first day of our trip.

도착했을 때는 이미 대기하는 손님이 여러팀 있었는데요. 직원이 휴대폰 번호를 등록하면 테이블이 준비되는 대로 문자로 알려주는 시스템이라고 안내해 주셨어요. 제가 여행 중이라 미국 휴대폰 번호가 없어서 이름을 불러달라고 부탁드렸고, 약 10분 정도 기다린 뒤 입장할 수 있었어요.
When we arrived, there were already several groups waiting for a table. The staff explained that they normally send a text message when your table is ready after you register your phone number. Since I didn't have a U.S. phone number while traveling, I asked them to call my name instead. After waiting for about 10 minutes, we were seated.
1927년에 문을 연 Sam’s No.3는 덴버를 대표하는 오랜 역사의 로컬 다이너로, 지금까지도 현지인과 여행객 모두에게 사랑받는 맛집이에요. 버거와 샌드위치, 오믈렛, 팬케이크 같은 브런치 메뉴부터 미국 가정식 스타일 메뉴까지 다양하게 즐길 수 있습니다.
메뉴 가격은 대부분 20달러 전후로, 최근 미국 물가를 생각하면 비교적 무난한 편이었어요.

테이블마다 하인즈(Heinz) 케첩과 핫소스, 설탕, 커피용 크리머 등이 준비되어 있었어요. 미드에서 볼 수 있는 전형적인 미국 다이너 분위기가 느껴지더라고요.
Each table was stocked with Heinz ketchup, hot sauce, sugar, coffee creamers, and other basic condiments, giving the restaurant that classic American diner atmosphere you often see in movies and TV shows.
주문 후에는, 음료컵에 티슈와 수저를 담아서 직원분이 가져다 주셨어요. 탄산음료는 리필이 되는데, 셀프가 아니고 직원에게 부탁하는 시스템이었어요.
After we ordered, our server brought our utensils and napkins neatly placed inside a drink cup, which was a fun little detail. Soft drinks also come with free refills, although they're not self-serve—you simply ask your server for another refill.
배가 많이 고프진 않아서, 이 날은 Country Fried Steak Dinner와 Green Chili Mexi-Burger 두 가지 메뉴만 주문했습니다.
Since we weren't extremely hungry that evening, we ordered just two dishes: Country Fried Steak Dinner and Green Chili Mexi-Burger.
Country Fried Steak Dinner는 디너 메뉴라 스프 또는 샐러드 중 하나를 선택할 수 있었어요. 저희는 스프를 선택했고, 사이드는 감자튀김으로 주문했어요.
스프는 토마토 베이스에 채소와 작은 파스타가 들어간 미네스트로네 수프가 나왔고, 새콤하면서도 담백한 맛이었어요. 함께 나온 크래커를 부숴 넣어 먹으니 식감도 더해져 맛있게 즐길 수 있었습니다.
The Country Fried Steak Dinner came with a choice of soup or salad, and we chose the soup. For the side, we went with French fries. The soup of the day was Minestrone, a tomato-based vegetable soup with small pasta. It had a light, slightly tangy flavor, and adding the crackers gave it a nice bit of crunch.

Country Fried Steak은 소고기를 튀긴 돈까스에, 그레이비 소스가 올려진 요리였어요. 익숙한 맛이지만 그레이비 소스가 크림 소스에 가까워서 느끼한 조합이긴 했어요.
The Country Fried Steak itself reminded me of a breaded pork cutlet, except it was made with beef and topped with creamy country gravy. The flavor was familiar and comforting, although the rich gravy made the overall dish a bit heavy.
맥앤치즈는 치즈 풍미가 진하고 꾸덕한 식감이라 맛있게 먹었어요. 사이드로 적은 양을 먹는 게 딱 좋더라고요.
We also ordered mac and cheese, which had a rich, cheesy flavor and a thick, creamy texture. It was delicious, but I think it's best enjoyed as a side rather than a full meal.
Green Chili Mexi-Burger는 Sam’s No.3의 대표 메뉴 중 하나에요. 비프 패티와 리프라이드 빈을 또르티야로 감싼 뒤, 콜로라도에서 유명한 Green Chili와 체다치즈를 듬뿍 올려 완성한 메뉴예요. 칠리라고 해서 매울 줄 알았는데, 오히려 느끼했던 것 같아요.
We also tried the Green Chili Mexi-Burger, one of Sam's No.3's signature dishes. It features a beef patty and refried beans wrapped in a tortilla, then topped with Colorado-style Green Chili and melted cheddar cheese. Since it's called "Green Chili," I expected it to be spicy, but it was actually much milder than I anticipated. Instead of being hot, it tasted rich and savory, almost a little heavy.
버거에는 사이드 메뉴가 함께 제공되며, 저희는 감자튀김을 선택했어요. 바삭하게 잘 튀겨진 감자튀김은 버거와 잘 어울렸고, 양도 넉넉해 만족스러운 한 끼였어요.
The burger came with a side of French fries, which were crispy, generously portioned, and paired perfectly with the burger.
이번 덴버 여행에서 방문한 Sam’s No.3는 현지인들에게 왜 오랫동안 사랑받는 맛집인지 알 수 있었던 곳이었습니다. 메뉴 종류가 다양하고 양도 푸짐해 든든한 한 끼를 즐기기에 충분했고, 미국 로컬 다이너 특유의 분위기까지 함께 경험할 수 있어 더욱 만족스러웠어요.
