문화역 서울 284에서 진행중인 [헤더윅 스튜디오: 감성을 빚다] 전시회에 다녀왔어요. 한 달에 한 번 정도는 나만의 시간을 가지면서 문화생활을 해보기로 마음 먹고, 블로그에 새로운 카테고리도 만들어보았습니다 :)
I visited the exhibition [Heatherwick Studio: Building Soulfulness] currently taking place at Culture Station Seoul 284. I've decided to spend some time on my own, attending exhibitions or performances about once a month. I even created a new category on my blog for it!

헤드윅 스튜디오 전시 소식을 처음 접했을 때 무조건 가야겠다! 생각하고 7월초에 표 예매를 했는데, 방학에 아이도 계속 아프고... 전시 막바지가 되어서야 가볼 수 있었네요.
I booked tickets in early July, but my child kept getting sick during the vacation... So I was finally able to visit yesterday.
입장 요금은 성인 기준 20,000원이에요. 만 6세 미만 미취학 아동은 무료이나, 아이가 흥미로워할 컨텐츠는 아니라서 혼자 마음 편히 갔어요 :)
The admission fee is 20,000 won for adults. Children under 6 years old can enter for free, but since my child isn't very interested in architecture, I went alone to enjoy it at my own pace.
아이 유치원 등원시킨 후 오전 10시 조금 넘어 도착했는데, 입장은 11시부터였어요. 근처 연남방앗간에서 음료 한 잔하며 시간을 보냈습니다.
After dropping my child off at kindergarten, I arrived a little after 10 A.M., but the admission was scheduled to start at 11 A.M. So, I spent some time at a nearby cafe enjoying a drink.
전시장 입구에는 전시 브로셔를 볼 수 있는 QR코드가 있어요. 입장할 때 미리 찍어서 다운받아두면 관람할 때 동선 체크하기 편하더라고요.
There is a QR code at the entrance of the exhibition hall where you can view the brochure. It's convenient to scan it and download the brochure in advance so that you can easily check the route while touring the exhibition.
평일 오픈시간인 11시에 맞춰 갔는데도, 사람이 제법 많았어요. 11시 15분부터 진행되는 도슨트 투어도 들을 수 있었는데요, 30분 정도 설명을 듣고 이후에 혼자 천천히 전시를 둘러보니 헤드윅 스튜디오가 추구하는 가치가 반영된 작품들을 더 잘 이해할 수 있어서 좋았습니다.
사진은 인상 깊었던 작품 위주로 찍어보았어요.
Even though I arrived at 11 A.M. on a weekday, there were quite a few people. I also had the option to join a guided tour starting at 11:15 A.M., which lasted about 30 minutes. After listening to the explanations, I took my time exploring the exhibition on my own.This was a great opportunity as it helped me gain a better understanding of the values that Heatherwick Studio conveys through its artworks.

입구에 있는 미래 모빌리티 에어로. 들어가서 앉으려는 분들이 몇 계셨는데, 여기 올라가시면 안됩니다ㅠㅠ (전시장 내부 사진촬영은 가능합니다.)
There were a few people trying to sit on the Future Mobility Airo at the entrance, but please refrain from doing so. (Taking photos inside the exhibition is allowed.)
- 1. 공존하다 Coming Together
헤드윅 스튜디오는 하나의 거대한 공간을 만들기 위해, 작은 부분 하나하나에 디테일을 넣어 인간의 감성을 자극하는 디자인을 했어요.
Heatherwick Studio's design philosophy involves adding intricate details to each small part in order to create a single, expansive space that stimulates human emotions.
이번 전시에서는 헤드윅 스튜디오의 작품들을 목업으로 만나볼 수 있었는데요, 목업만 봐도 감탄이 나오더라고요.
In this exhibition, I had the chance to see Heatherwick Studio's works in the form of models, and even just looking at the models was inspiring.
영국 파빌리온의 겉면에 고슴도치처럼 꽂힌 아크릴 막대 끝에 각각 들어있는 씨앗들- 그래서 씨앗 대성당이라고 불렸다고 합니다. 이 건물을 실제로 보면 얼마나 예쁠까 싶더라고요.
On the exterior of the UK Pavilion, there are acrylic rods with seeds at the end, resembling hedgehogs. That's why it was referred to as the "Seed Cathedral." I can only imagine how beautiful the actual building must be to see.
- 2. 조각적 공간 Experiencing Sculptural Space
이 공간에서는 헤드윅 스튜디오의 가장 큰 디자인적 특징 중 하나인, 입체적이고 조각적인 형태를 살린 건축물들을 볼 수 있었어요.
In this space, you could see architectural structures that showcase one of Heatherwick Studio's most prominent design features: three-dimensional and sculptural forms.
강원도 설해원에 짓고 있는 코어. 완성되면 한동안 인산인해를 이루겠지만 한 번쯤 가보고 싶은 곳이에요.
[The Core] being built in Gangwon Province's Seolhaeone is sure to become an impressive attraction once it's completed. It's definitely a place I'd like to visit in the future.
뉴욕 허드슨 야드의 베슬도 이렇게나마 만나볼 수 있었고요.
I wonder when I'll be able to see the real [Vessel] at New York's Hudson Yards.
- 3. 도심 속의 자연 Feeling Nature in Urban Space
자연과 어우러지면서, 사람들이 자연을 느끼고 즐길 수 있는 공간을 만들기 위해 노력한 디자인의 건축물들이 소개되어있었어요.
In this space, you could see buildings and designs that aimed to harmonize with nature and create spaces where people can connect with and enjoy the natural environment.
- 4. 감성의 공유 Connecting with Everyone
탁 트인 공간 속에서 사람들이 햇살을 느끼며 교류하고, 영감을 얻을 수 있는 공간을 만드려고 한 헤드윅 스튜디오의 건축 철학을 엿볼 수 있었어요.
Heatherwick Studio approaches each project with the ambition of creating a positive impact, where people will enjoy interaction and draw inspiration from the space.
- 5. 과거를 담은 미래 Bringing Old to the Future
자이츠 아프리카 미술관은 가장 인상 깊었던 작품 중 하나에요. 옥수수 창고로 사용되던 건물 옆면을 옥수수 낱알 모양으로 깎아내어, 현대미술관으로 새로이 탄생시켰는데 정말 멋지더라고요.
The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa was one of the most impressive pieces for me. They transformed a former corn silo into a modern art museum by carving the sides of the building to resemble individual corn kernels. It was truly stunning.
- 6. 사용과 놀이 Playing and Using
2층에도 전시 공간이 마련되어있어요.
The exhibition continues on the second floor.
구 서울역사의 옥색 계단은 왜 촌스럽지가 않을까요?ㅎㅎ 이곳을 전시 공간으로 택한 이유가 옛 공간을 철거하지 않고, 새로운 공간으로 활용하는 헤더윅 스튜디오의 건축 철학과 일맥상통하기 때문이라고 하더라고요.
The jade color staircase at the former Seoul Station might doesn't feel outdated at all. I heard that this place aligns with Heatherwick Studio's architectural philosophy of repurposing old spaces into new ones.
1시간 정도 서있다보니 무릎이 아프기 시작했는데, 스핀 체어에 앉아서 잠시 영상을 보며 쉴 수 있었어요. 이 영상은 집에 와서도 다시 찾아보았다는...
After standing for about an hour, my knees started to ache, but I was able to take a break and relax in the Spin Chair while watching a video. I even looked it up again when I got home.
- 7. 샘플과 스케치 Samples and Sketches
여기에는 에어로 목업이 있었어요 :)

- 관객 참여 공간
마지막에는 관객이 직접 참여할 수 있는 공간도 마련되어있었어요. 각 문장을 보며 헤드윅 스튜디오가 사람들의 감성을 자극하기 위해 얼마나 많은 고민을 하는지 알 수 있었답니다.
In the end, there was also a space where the audience could participate. Observing each sentence, I could see how much thought Heatherwick Studio put into stimulating people's emotions.
좋아하는 공간, 좋아하는 거리, 좋아하는 건물에 대한 기록을 남겨보는 것도 일상을 풍요롭게 만들어주는 요소 중 하나인 것 같아요. 그래서 제가 블로그를 열심히 하고 있는 이유이기도 합니다. 차곡차곡 기록해두고 나중에 찾아보면 추억에 잠기게 되는 게 좋더라고요.
Recording favorite spaces, streets, and buildings is indeed one of the elements that enrich our daily lives. That's one of the reasons why I have my own blog. It's nice to document everything methodically because when you look back later, it allows you to immerse yourself in the memories.
- 아트샵
아트샵에는 도록과 포스터, 티셔츠 등 판매중이었어요.
The art shop had brochures, posters, T-shirts, and other items available for sale.
집에 온 후, 2층 전시 공간에서 봤던 유튜브 영상을 다시 시청하며 점심을 먹었어요. 토마스 헤드윅에 대해 알게 되고, 그의 디자인 철학에 완전 매료된 하루였어요. 저도 한 때 디자인 공부를 했던 사람인데, 그 때 왜 그 분야를 택했었는지 생각도 나고...
After returning home, I had lunch while re-watching the YouTube video I saw in the second-floor exhibition space. The exhibition was truly inspiring, and I was completely captivated by Thomas Heatherwick's design philosophy.
