지난주, 종로에 잠깐 나갈 일이 있었어요. 간김에 KF갤러리에 들러서 '한글 헬베티카 서밋' 전시회를 보고 왔습니다 :)
Last week, I had some errands to run in Jongno. While I was there, I stopped by the KF Gallery to check out the 'Hangul Helvetica Summit' exhibition.

KF갤러리는 미래에셋 센터원 빌딩 서관 2층에 위치해있어요. 어떻게 올라가야하나 했는데, 서관 1층에서 연결되는 계단이 있더라고요.
The KF Gallery is located on the 2nd floor of the Mirae Asset Center1 Building West Annex.
전시 소식은 주한 스위스 대사관 인스타그램을 통해 알게되었는데요, 작년에 진행했던 SPACELESS 사진전을 인상깊게 본 후로 스위스 대사관에서 진행하는 행사들에 관심을 갖게 되었어요.
I found out about the exhibition through the Instagram account of the Swiss Embassy in Korea. Since I was deeply impressed by the SPACELESS photo exhibition held last year, I have been keenly interested in events organized by the Swiss Embassy.
입구에는 전시 도록과 스위스 디자인 맵이 비치되어있어요. 9월, 10월이 스위스 디자인의 달이라, 서울 곳곳에서 스위스 디자인, 건축, 예술과 관련된 행사가 많이 진행되고 있습니다 :)
At the entrance, there were brochures featuring the exhibition and Swiss design spots in Seoul. During September and October, numerous events related to Swiss design, architecture, and art are taking place throughout Seoul.
2023년이 한국과 스위스 수교 60주년을 기념하는 해라, 기념 로고도 만들어졌는데요. 로고 스티커도 가져갈 수 있도록 도록 옆에 비치되어 있었어요. 함께 걸어가는 에델바이스와 무궁화꽃의 모습이 예쁘고 귀여워서 2장 챙겨왔어요.
2023 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Switzerland. In commemoration, a special logo has been created. These logo stickers were available next to the brochures for visitors to take. I found the image of the Edelweiss and Mugunghwa flowers walking together so adorable that I took two of them.
헬베티카 서체와 전시에 대한 소개글 :) 다양한 서체가 넘쳐나는 세상인데, 일상생활에서 가장 쉽게 접할 수 있는 서체가 헬베티카였다니 나름 놀라웠어요.
There was an introduction of the Helvetica Font and the Exhibition. In a world overflowing with various fonts, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Helvetica, known for its simplicity and cleanliness, is the font most easily encountered in our daily lives.
Helvetica is renowned for its straightforward and neat design, and this exhibition provided a closer look at its unique charm. I was deeply moved by the beauty of the font and the special atmosphere of the exhibition space, where the uniqueness of design was palpable.
전시장 들어가기 전, 네온 사인으로 만들어진 커다란 기념 로고가 반겨줍니다.
There was a large commemorative logo crafted in neon signage. I couldn't help but wonder about the choice of the color red and its significance in the overall design.
전시장을 둘러보니, 학부생 시절에 진행했던 과제전이 떠오르더라고요. 2학년 때 시각디자인에 잠깐 발만 담궜다가 뺐던 적이 있거든요...ㅎㅎ 디자인이 너무 어려웠던 학생 시절...ㅠㅠ
헬베티카 서체가 사용된 인쇄물은 자유롭게 볼 수 있도록 펼쳐져 있었어요.
While looking at the exhibition, memories of a project I did during my undergraduate years came to mind. Back in my sophomore year, I briefly listened to some visual design classes. As a student, those were the days when design seemed so challenging...
The printed materials using the Helvetica font were laid out for everyone to freely explore, bringing a sense of delight.
'슈이써60'은 헬베티카 서체와 가장 잘 어울리는 한글 서체로, 대한민국과 스위스의 수교 60주년을 기념하기 위해 제작되었어요. 제작과정을 담은 영상과 메모들을 보니 서체 하나를 만들기 위해서 얼마나 꼼꼼하게 많은 부분들을 신경써야하는지 알 수 있었어요.
'슈이써60' is a Korean font that was created to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Switzerland. Watching videos and reading notes about the creation process, I realized how meticulous and detailed the effort required to craft a typeface is. The font embodies the celebration of this significant milestone in the relations between the two countries.
기업 로고에 사용된 헬베티카도 소개 되어있었고요. 익숙한 회사 이름들이 많이 보이네요.
The Helvetica typeface used in corporate logos was also introduced. Many familiar company names were prominently featured.
국내와 해외 그래픽 디자이너들이 한글 서체 슈이써60과 헬베티카를 사용해 디자인한 포스터들도 전시되어있어요. 한글 서체가 익숙치 않은 해외 디자이너들이 해석한 디자인이 흥미로웠어요.
The exhibition also features posters designed by both domestic and international graphic designers using the Korean font '슈이써60' and Helvetica. It was fascinating to see the designs interpreted by foreign designers who might not be as familiar with the Korean font.
아들의 태명이었던, 쁨이라는 글자가 크게 들어간 포스터가 있어서 가까이서 찍어보았어요. 작가님 이름을 찍은 줄 알았더니... 안 찍었네요.
There was a poster featuring the character '쁨,' which used to be my son's fetal nickname when I was pregnant. I took a close-up photo to commemorate the moment. I thought I had captured the artist's name, but it turns out I didn't....
스위스 학생들의 작품도 재밌었어요. 각자 개발한 서체로, 한글 시詩를 활용하여 포스터를 디자인했는데요, 최근 아드님이 유치원에서 배운 윤동주의 별 헤는 밤도 있더라고요. 여긴 정말 과제전이 맞네요...ㅎㅎㅎ
The works of Swiss students were also enjoyable. Each student used their developed typefaces to design posters using Korean poems. Interestingly, there was even a representation of the poem "별 헤는 밤" by Yoon Dong-ju, which my child recently learned in kindergarten. So, this part truly feels like an exhibition of a school project.
무료 전시인데다 규모가 크지 않아 부담없이 둘러보기 좋았고, 시각디자인을 공부하는 학생이라면 보면 추천드리고 싶은 전시회에요. KF 갤러리에서 진행되는 전시도 종종 구경하러 가야겠습니다 :)
Given that it's a free exhibition and not overly extensive, exploring it was both easy and enjoyable. I would recommend it to students studying visual design.
