2007년에 산 스이카 IC카드 2023년에 환불 받은 썰 (Getting a Refund for My 16-Year-Old Suica)

 

이번 도쿄 여행은 2007년, 2009년 이후로 처음이었어요. 2009년 여행은 회사에서 인센티브 트립으로 다녀온거라 회사 일정대로 단체 관광객처럼 따라다니느라 큰 의미는 없었고, 2007년 뚜벅이 여행이 기억에 많이 남아요.

그 때 당시에 구입했던 스이카 IC카드도 아직 고스란히 간직하고 있었어요. 스이카는 사용기한이 10년이라, 어차피 이 카드를 쓸 수는 없지만 보증금 환불이라도 되지 않을까 내심 기대하며 도쿄까지 들고 갔답니다.

This trip to Tokyo was my first since 2007 and 2009. The 2009 trip was an incentive trip with my colleagues from work, so I followed along like a group tourist, sticking to the company's schedule. It didn't hold much significance for me. However, the solo trip in 2007 remains vivid in my memory.

I still had the Suica IC card that I purchased back then. The Suica card has a validity period of 10 years, so I couldn't use it during this trip. Nevertheless, I brought it with me to Tokyo, hoping that I might be able to get a refund for the deposit.

새 스이카는 시나가와역의 Newdays라는 편의점에서 샀어요. 1장당 2000엔입니다. 보증금 500엔+1500엔이 충전되어있는 카드더라고요. IC칩이 부족하다는 얘길 들어서 재고가 없을 줄 알았는데, 시나가와역에는 다행히 있었네요.
I bought a new Suica card at a convenience store called Newdays in Shinagawa Station. It cost 2,000 yen per card, which includes a 500 yen deposit and 1500 yen loaded onto the card. I had heard that there might be a shortage of cards with IC chips, so I was relieved to find them available at Shinagawa Station.

교통카드를 충전하는 단말기에 보니, [카드 갱신]란이 보이길래 16년 된 스이카를 넣어봤어요. 당연히 확인이 필요하다는 메세지가 떴고... 안내 창구에 가서 물어보니 직원 분이 티켓 오피스로 가보라고 하셨어요.
When I saw the "Card Update" option on the card charging terminal, I decided to try inserting my 16-year-old Suica card. As expected, a message appeared indicating that further inquiry was necessary. I approached the information counter and asked one of the staff members for assistance. They advised me to go to the ticket office.

시나가와역 티켓 오피스는 줄이 매우 길었어요...😪 일요일 밤 9시쯤 간 거 같은데 그 시간에도 무슨 민원이 그리 많은지-  20분 정도 기다렸던 것 같아요. 직원 분께, 이 스이카 16년전에 샀는데 환불 될까요? 물어보니 확인해보시겠다고 하시고, 1200엔 줄 수 있다고 하셨어요.
보증금 500에 700엔 정도 충전되어있는 카드였나봐요. 만원을 되찾은 기분이라 왠지 뿌듯했어요...ㅎㅎㅎ 16년이 지나도 환불이 되다니, 약간 놀랍기도 했고요.

여튼 스이카 10년 지났다고 절대 버리면 안된다는 걸 깨달았습니다 :)

The ticket office at Shinagawa Station had a long queue, and I had to wait for about 20 minutes. It was surprising to see so many people seeking assistance at the ticket office on a Sunday night around 9P.M. When I asked one of the staff members about my Suica card, which I had purchased 16 years ago, they took the time to check and informed me that I could receive a refund of 1,200 yen.

It turned out that my card had a 500 yen deposit and approximately 700 yen remaining balance. Receiving that amount back was quite satisfying. I found it somewhat surprising that even after 16 years, a refund was still possible. This experience has taught me the importance of not discarding a Suica card, even if it expires after 10 years.
